God's Fellowship with Man

The compilation of 66 inspired books we call the Bible is the most important and most copied collection of any books worldwide. Even though the scriptures record so many stories and eye-witness accounts drenched with subjects of a wide variety, the Bible has always had one main theme: God’s fellowship with man. From the very beginning in Genesis to the very end in Revelation, one does not have to stretch at all to see that this message is what the scriptures have emphasized time and time again.

In the beginning God made the heavens and the earth and everything that inhabits it (cf. Gen. 1). One such inhabitant of the earth was man. Man is given a detailed account of his creation more than any other created thing for a specific purpose. God made men in His image which is absolutely separate from anything else He made. He gave man a spirit just as He is, and He did this because He wanted to have fellowship with man. In Genesis 3 however, the Bible tells us that the man and the woman committed sin against God and they tried to hide themselves from Him (cf. Gen. 3:8-10). It is at this point we begin to fully understand how important fellowship with God is. The man and the woman were thrown out of the garden because of their sin and they were separated from God. From this point on, sin became a major problem preventing man and God from having this key relationship.

The scriptures highlight some important and godly figures that chose God over sin and thus, they had a harmonious relationship together. Such an example would be Enoch who walked with God (cf. Gen. 5:24). Men such as Enoch are few and far between much of the biblical story as it falls on the backdrop of the sinful nature of mankind. After the account in Genesis 3, the entirety of the Old Testament focuses of God’s plan to bring man back to Him which comes to pass in the New Testament. God knew that as long as people were sinning there could be no way for Him to have fellowship with them. His promises to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, David and many others all point to one important reality that would be able to solve the problem of sin: Jesus Christ.Jesus was the fulness of God’s plan to take care of sin, so we could have this fruitful, intimate fellowship with our Creator.

The Apostle Paul puts it this way: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them”(Eph. 2:10). The use of the word beforehand would suggest that this plan was in the making even before the foundation of the world. It is absolutely amazing and beyond the human mind to grasp the reality of such a plan. God did everything that He did, which included sending His only son to die for us, so we could have oneness with Him. God went to great lengths for us and it makes me wonder: How are we living for Him? What kind of strides are we making with our Savior? Are we, like Enoch, walking with Him? He made Jesus become sin, so we could take advantage of that (cf. 2 Cor. 5:21).

Folks, this is what the Bible message is all about. This is what it emphasizes on every single page in the scriptures. Take a look and see the beauty of it for yourselves. All 66 books were written so we could realize the importance of having a relationship with God. When this life is over, eternity begins. If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we will have fellowship with God (cf. 1 Jn. 1:7) and He will bring us home with Him in the end. If we fail to do the one thing scripture emphasizes from the beginning to the end, then we will be separated from Him forever. Think on these things.
